Everyone Deserves to do Something They Love
When you wake in the morning the first thing you think or feel will be your body and mind communicating with you. It may be trying to tell you something important or reminding you that a particular area of your life needs addressing. It’s also the time when you may have to think about going to work, but maybe you dread the thought of getting out of bed as you are desperately unhappy in your job.
Imagine what it would feel like to wake up in the morning with a feeling of excitement, zest for life, bounce, happiness, fulfilment, love, joy!
Before I began my career as a Coach and Trainer my life was full of dead-ends and miserable jobs. I struggled with deciding on a vocation because I felt restricted to the options given to me by the poor careers support at school. I also lacked confidence in my ability due to being pigeon-holed into various intelligence levels before I took my exams.
After a few years studying and flapping I began my career making tea and living the dream of someone else in an admin role. I continued until I realised there had to be more to life than sitting in an office all day being bossed about! Although I worked my way up to Management and got some great experience, I also found it to be stressful and progressed to working more hours, with more stress, to get paid more money.
The most common factors for discontent at work is being surrounded by people you have little in common with, lack of personal time and fundamentally your role and responsibilities not resonating with your deepest values and beliefs . When you are working for someone else, you will be working towards their vision, their values and their goals. However if these beliefs and values aren’t in alignment with your own drives, you will feel unhappy and lack fulfilment in your role. Some people even become ill when they are not expressing their highest calling.
During stressful times in my job, I would feel depressed and fatigued. My physical body would ache but I ignored the signs and soldiered on until I was made redundant. But I grabbed this daunting opportunity to do a bit of soul searching and discovered that the most important thing for my own job satisfaction was to contribute to making a difference in some way. Upon my own self-coaching I discovered my values were extremely different to the roles and responsibilities in my previous jobs and this led me to transform my whole career path – just as the recession hit in 2008! Although it felt risky, it was actually the easiest thing I have done. When you change the direction of your pain, doors open, opportunities appear and the right people come into your life to help you along. But there is an element of intention setting and trust to get the ball rolling.
A bit of self coaching…..
We all deserve to do a job we are passionate about, but sometimes we feel fuzzy and confused about what drives us and this causes us to stick out the mundane and familiar tasks in our safe place. For some people their lack of confidence and belief in their ability prevents them from ever doing a job they love, and getting paid for it. Does this sound like you?
Because I know how frustrating this is, I’ve included an exercise below to get you deeply delving and thinking about what you really desire for your year ahead and into the future. Many people take little time to sit and focus on what they want so they create on an unconscious level, but when you intend and create consciously you are driving your life in a conscious way, and therefore doing much more of what you love!
Use this exercise to really open up your mind to unlimited possibilities. I suggest that instead of trying to list your thoughts in the perfect order, grab a piece of paper and throw some random ideas down. Make it messy!

“Although we cannot always control the events in our lives, we can always control our response to them, and the actions we take as a result. If there’s anything you’re not happy about in your relationships, in your health, in your career, make a decision right now about how you’re going to change it – immediately.”
Anthony Robbins
