How to Embrace Change and Make Important Decisions
Some people can thrive on change and get a real buzz from it, but many people don’t feel comfortable associating much pain and anxiety to the idea and experience of it. Change can make us feel very unsettled and scared about the future.
Sometimes we can control the change that happens around us, but sometimes the change is out of our hands. This could be a break up of a relationship, losing a job, changing your body shape, or a health related problem. Either way, change is constantly happening and we cannot always be in control of our upheaval or transformation. However we can be in control of the way we respond to our circumstances.
We have all the resources we need within us to cope with change, but sometimes we can believe we are powerless. Having choice is a fundamental resource and can be applied into our everyday life at any time. Intuition is our inner navigation system and just like a sat nav we can make decisions by noticing the way our body feels at the thought of doing something specific. We have choice to do whatever feels right to move us in and out of situations. Many people rely on other people telling them what they should and shouldn’t do and may not even be consciously be aware of it. This has little benefit in the long run as we end up living out our lives to please other people instead.
When you shift the responsibility of making a decision to someone else, you are giving your personal power away. If a situation goes wrong or something doesn’t go to plan, it’s very easy to point the finger and hold someone else responsible for the result. But if you are feeling stuck in a rut then chances are you need to make a decision and take action, rather than leaving it in the hands of someone else.
If the thought of change makes you feel uncomfortable there will be an unconscious fear of something, here are some examples:
- Fear of rejection
- Fear of failure
- Fear of success
- Fear of being attractive
- Fear of happiness
- Fear of uncertainty
- Fear of embarrassment
- Fear of dying
These are just some of the fears that we naturally hold ingrained in our subconscious mind and can be the likely culprits to us not achieving what we want. However fear is very much an illusion because when you think of doing something or taking action in some way, you often imagine the outcome in a very exaggerated visual image or feeling. But fear is there for a useful reason, it will be trying to protect you from any pain.
Do you know what it is you want to change? And if so, what or who is stopping you?
Stop for a moment to notice your answers.
No doubt you will have some negative self talk or some excuses coming up, or maybe you couldn’t think of anything. Either way, these questions can be very powerful and applied any time you feel like you’re not getting anywhere, or you can’t seem to make a decision and take action. At least if you first get acknowledgement, the decision and action can then follow.
Maybe you’re at a cross roads and don’t know which way to turn. Perhaps you feel like life is just one up-hill struggle. Or you just cannot seem to get the break you need. All of these thoughts can be transformed into action, by just taking more responsibility and being the captain of your life.
